AWARD DISCIPLINES
Music award programme planning
Music awards can recognise a recording, a composition, a performance or the people responsible for it. We help organisers define that focus and connect the programme identity, website, entry requirements, jury process and announcements. Audio delivery and listening access are scoped around the intended programme.
For music organisations, education providers, cultural institutions, brands and creative communities.
01
Decide what the award recognises
Define whether the entry is a song, a recording, a score, a live performance or a body of work. Genre, experience level and release dates may shape the categories, but each distinction should help entrants understand where their work belongs.
- Category purpose, entry type, duration and release or creation window.
- Eligibility for independent artists, students, ensembles and collaborations.
- Composer, songwriter, performer, producer and other relevant contributor credits.
02
Prepare material for consistent listening
Set requirements for the actual material jurors need: a recording, lyrics, a score or performance documentation. Direct audio uploads, private links, file limits and playback access require technical review before platform selection or configuration. The entry brief should make these requirements understandable to participants.
- Audio formats, track length, listening links and availability dates.
- Lyrics, translations, scores or performance video where relevant.
- Playback checks and a way to resolve missing or inaccessible entry material.
03
Match the jury process to the work
Composition and performance call for different assessment criteria. Agree the listening stages, scoring approach and juror responsibilities, then plan the announcement assets. Reviewing an entry does not by itself establish permission for public streaming, promotion or a live presentation.
- Relevant jury expertise, listening time and conflicts-of-interest checks.
- Clear criteria for composition, performance or recording, as appropriate.
- Confirmed artist credits and agreed permissions for excerpts, publicity or performances.
START WITH THE BRIEF
Questions to shape your programme.
- Is the programme judging compositions, recordings, performances or contributors?
- What genres, participant levels and release periods are in scope?
- Which listening materials and supporting information will jurors need?
- Will winners be featured online, performed live or presented through another format?
